"Money Secrets of the Amish" by author Lorilee Craker, was a quick read. At first, I was a little bored, but by the time I got a few chapters in, I was really enjoying it and didn’t want to put the book down! What I love about this book isn't so much the information – there isn’t much that I don't already do - but I love the enthusiastic way in which the author shares it. Lorilee Craker hasn't just found ways to save money – her joy and excitement at the fun of it is all throughout the book.
Originally, I chose this book because of my love for living the simple lifestyle. But, in these hard economic times, who couldn't use a little extra scratch at the end of the month?
You're not going to find any truly mind boggling ideas or get rich quick schemes in the pages of this book, but you will find honest and simple ideas for making what you already have stretch just a bit further, which might give you just enough, to breathe a little easier.
You can't always get what you want - but you can stop wanting everything you can't get.
One thing I liked was that when offering advice from the Amish, Lorilee Craker ties the tip back into an average "English" lifestyle translation. She does her own real life experiment with each of the Amish ‘tips’. She also gleans tips and tricks from fellow parents and bloggers to add a variety of real life application to the text. She explains principles well and then offers various methods to apply these concepts into our everyday lives.
In today's economy we need to learn, how to live within our means and be happy about it. We need to change our cultural expectations and the way we view what is important.
"The truth that transcends Plain and Fancy: chasing after money and things is meaningless, because the best things in life are free."
