Beaten Robbed And Left For Dead - A Letter To The Judge

The man responsible for beating and leaving my dad to die goes to trial next month....
Only myself and my sister in law will be at the trial. My family is trusting God that justice will be served, but I felt compelled to make sure the judge knew how the mans actions have effected our whole family..... here is my letter to the judge.
Dear Sir,
I am writing on behalf of my dad, Mr. Glen Frick who was the victim of aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and in my opinion - attempted murder, that accured on Aug. 25, 2014.
The defendant, Mr. Peace committed a senseless, horrible crime against an innocent man. This crime was not something that was done in the spur of the moment, but rather it was thought out and premeditated. Mr. Peace knew exactly what he was doing. Not only did Mr. Peace hit my dad over the head to knock him out and take his wallet, he then continually beat him unmercifully over and over and left him there, lying in his blood, for dead.
If a customer had not found my dad when he did…. my Dad would have died, and this would be a murder trial.
My dad was care flighted to Dayton. He had bleeding on the brain, his jaw broke in two places, his left eye injured, his cheekbone shattered, the three bones around his left eye were broken, and 2 deep lacerations on his head (which were stapled shut). My dad had a 5- 6 hr. surgery to put metal plates around his eye, repair his cheekbone, and jaw, which was wired shut for 6 weeks. During those six weeks, my dad was on a liquid diet (all the while Mr. Peace was able to eat/chew his food – three meals a day.) My dad now has no feeling in his gum/chin and has lost 20 lbs. as a result.
The plates that were put into my dad’s jaw still restrict him from opening his mouth and chewing food. Doctors have told us that my dad will most likely have multiple surgeries ahead of him. This crime against my dad has worn him down physically and mentally. I watched my dad go from a strong man, to someone who looks old and tires easily. Since this has happened, he often gets out of breath. This crime has taken years off of my Father’s life and for that Mr. Peace is directly responsible.
Not only has this crime affected my dad, it has also affected the rest of our family. My mom is now afraid every time that a customer she doesn’t recognize comes to the shop. She will no longer go outside after dark. She is restless at night, waking up at each little sound, afraid that someone may be up to no good.
In the first two weeks after this crime, my son (age 7) who idolizes his Grandpa Frick was so traumatized by the way his Grandpa’s injuries looked, that he was scared to go near him. He (my son) wanted to know why a ‘bad man’ would hurt Grandpa and if that man (Mr. Peace) will hurt Grandpa again.
My Dad is a good and moral man, an asset to the community. He is well liked by his customers and is known for his willingness to help others without accepting anything in return. He certainly did not deserve this.
I know your job is not easy – but I beg of you, to please take into consideration the fact that this act of violence against my dad was completely unprovoked. Mr. Peace brutally beat my dad within an inch of his life, all for a few bucks.
Beyond the mental and physical trauma, that my dad has and will continue to endure, there is also the financial impact that may be felt for years to come. Although Crime Victims Compensation will help with his medical bills (up to $50,000), we do not know how many future complications, surgeries, and medical bills my dad will continually have as a result of this brutal attack.
What Mr. Peace done was wrong. When looking at Mr. Peace’s public court and jail records, it is very apparent that he has been given many chances to do better. In Darke County alone, he has had over 34 charges against him since Nov. 2004. Letting Mr. Peace off with a lower sentence would be an injustice to our family and the community. It would show others who chose to disobey the law that there is no consequence or punishment for their wrong actions and the crimes they commit. It is time Mr. Peace is held accountable for his actions and specifically for this crime which he chose to commit.
Please Sir, if Mr. Peace had severely beaten one of your loved ones and left them to die…. please consider what you would have the courts do in that case.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and for serving the Darke County community.
A daughter of the victim

Update: 09/28/14 - An update on my Dad was published in the paper today. You can read it here

Update: 10/31/2014 - The man responsible for beating my dad was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Beaten, Robbed, and Left For Dead - Donations For My Dad

I am still trying to wrap my head around the reasoning behind why anyone, no matter how desperate they are, would do such a cruel, heartless, and senseless violent assault against someone, especially my dad who would go out of his way to help a complete stranger.

As the last couple weeks have unfolded, I trust in the fact that God is an all knowing God.

My Dad was brutally beat with an ax handle, robbed, and left for dead on Aug. 25th, at his small engine repair shop in Greenville, Ohio. He was Care flighted to Miami Valley in Dayton with bleeding on the brain, 2 deep lacerations in his head, multiple fractures to the left side of his face, the bones around his left eye were broken, a broken cheekbone and his jaw broken in two places. He underwent a 6 hour surgery and will have his jaw wired shut for 6 to 8 weeks and will have to be on a liquid diet during that time. (Dr's. say it may take up to a year to get feeling back in his jaw/chin). He will be facing many medical expenses from hospital bills, surgery, care flight, ICU, Emergency room, hospital stay, as well as medications and upcoming doctor visits. It may be awhile before he is able to be out in his shop working his daily job to provide income.

We know that he is loved by the Darke County Community and his long time customers and ask that those who want to help would consider donating toward his upcoming expenses. Please follow this link to donate:

Any donations received will go directly to Mr. Frick (my Dad) in the form of a check.
- Thank you for caring.

Monagramed Book Letter

Home decor doesn't have to cost much. There are many DIY projects that you can do to make your home look great! I wanted to make a letter using the initial of our last name "K"!

Materials needed for project:
- Letters (you can find these at hobby stores)
- Old Song Book.
- Hot Glue Gun
- Hot Glue
- Scissors

1. Like every good craft project, gather all of your materials.

2. Begin by tearing out pages of an old song book.

3. After your pages are torn out of the book, use your scissors to cut the margins and page numbers off the paper. You mainly want just words or music notes showing.

4. Roll your paper. You can either roll them tight or loose, depending on

your preference. Try to roll them approx. the same size. -I know, easier said than done!

5. As you finish rolling your paper strip, grab your hot glue gun and put a small amount of glue onto the remaining edge of your paper strip.

6. Continue rolling your strip in order to adhere the glue strip onto the paper.

7. Lay your paper roll on the letter and either estimate where to cut it or use a pencil to mark where to cut it. (The letter 'K' has an angle so it was a little difficult to get the rolls cut perfect.)

8. Hot Glue your paper roll onto your letter.

9. Continue until your letter is covered entirely with paper rolls.

10. Enjoy your Book Letter and have fun deciding where to stand it.

I am still trying to decide if I want to put my letter on my bookcase, or place it on the mantle....

REAL Vitamin Water - Shaklee Style

This time of year there is so much flu, strep throat and just plain colds and coughs going around. You can't be on social media or talk to friends without someone (or lots of someones) being sick in some kind of way.

So, if that is you, I want to tell you - you don't have to be 'sick' any longer. Your body just needs the right nutrients to be able to heal itself.

Today, I want to post a recipe for REAL Vitamin Water..... it works wonders and taste's great!

This is my favorite recipe to use for an all-natural solution for my family, especially the kids. It supports their immune system, but doesn’t disrupt their nervous system, which means, NO nasty side effects. It’s dye free, artificial sugar free and best of all, tastes great. Really easy to put in thermos to sip on during the school day too! Super Easy, Healthy, recipe to keep you and your family well!

This can be used as a preventative when everyone around you is sniffling or for comfort to kick that cold/flu away.

REAL Vitamin Water -Shaklee Style

Makes 1 serving for adults, 2 servings for kids
3 TBL of Performance (we like Lemon Lime)
10 Chewable Vitamin C
4 Defend and Resist
1 Vitamin D
2-3 Ice Cubes
8-12 ounces of filtered water

Blend it well and enjoy your cool, soothing vitamin water that works! Use 2x a day if you’re not feeling well and 1x a day as a preventative when your family is sick.

Notes: This can also be made as a Get Well Slushie, simply use 2-4oz water and 7-10 ice cubes (That's how I like it best!) Optional: add juice of 1 lime and stevia to sweeten.
To boost immunity even more, take 1 Optiflora probiotic capsule daily.

• Keep your medicine cabinet stocked for the next bunch of sniffles, cold or flu.

As a side note.... we love our glass straws from glass dharma. They make sipping the REAL Vitamin Water that much better!

What others are saying:

I get Bronchitis every winter, but this year, I have been using the homemade Shaklee vitamin water and it is GREAT! No Dr. visit, no breathing treatment!! -A. M.

Thanks for this! I am using it for my allergy attack! Started Tuesday evening, and feel 100% better today (Thursday) more sniffles or sneezing! -B. R.

Thank you to the person who created the Shaklee Vitamin Water recipe. My daughter was developing a persistent cold/cough. I gave her the Vitamin Water and I could not believe how quickly it worked. Right after drinking it, her PERSISTENT cough was GONE. Thank you...thank you...thank you!!! - S. C.

The Vitamin Water worked for my hubby when he came home with a cough day he was scuba diving again! -M. F.

Safer Than Bleach and Lysol......

The safest disinfectant on the market! Nonflammable, Biodegradable & Non-toxic. Cleans, Disinfects & Deodorizes. Kills up to 99% of bacteria.

Mix 3/8 teaspoon to 16 oz spray bottle.
Mix 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon of water.

Because it is so concentrated, a little goes a long way and saves your wallet!  (Once mixed, use in 30 days)

Basic-G has a 3 year shelf life. Its residual effectiveness lasts up to 3 days after application. Chlorine (bleach) used as a disinfectant is effective no more than 1 hour.

The many uses of Basic-G

In the Bathroom:
Toilets ~ Garbage Pails ~ Diaper Pails ~ Sinks and Faucets ~ Showers
Pet Areas
In the kitchen
Countertops ~ Cutting Boards ~ Faucet and Sink ~ Refrigerator Handles ~ Floors
After preparing eggs, chicken & meats to kill Salmonella
Trash Cans ~ Door Knobs
Makes the best weed killer, and it is safe.
1-gallon Water
1-tblspn of Shaklee Basic G
1/2-cup of white vinegar
For diapers and other problem jobs
Add 1 teaspoon per load to deodorize and disinfect. Helps eliminate diaper rash!
Safe to use as an air freshener.
Safe for stainless steel & aluminum.
It is safe to use on hard, non-porous surfaces.
Great for disinfecting throughout your house
EPA registered
One quart makes up to 64 gallons
Shaklee did not put it in the Get Clean line because the advertising of that line is all Non Toxic.
“If it is non-toxic, why are there warnings on the bottle?”   According to EPA standards, bottles must be labeled according to what is IN the bottle.  Now, remember, more than 80,000 products are not registered with the EPA or labeled correctly.  This is a plus for Shaklee and their reputation for integrity in that it is registered and labeled correctly.  So when it comes to the concentrated form of BasicG, if what is IN the bottle were to be consumed, it is toxic by EPA standards.  However, it is not nearly as toxic as other cleaners.

In its properly diluted form Basic G is completely non-toxic and not harmful at all.

Basic-6® Germicide is effective against the following pathogens (6/96):
Streptococcus pyogenes *Vaccinia
