Book Review - The Grace of God by Andy Stanley

The Grace of God by Andy Stanley
Rating: 3 Stars

Grace. We all need it. Grace is God pouring out on us what we don't deserve.

When we sin we deserve nothing less than punishment from God, yet instead He came in the form of His Son to take the punishment for us. This was the ultimate show of God's grace, and it is given to us freely. Grace is one of the greatest gifts in the world.

Andy Stanley traces the theme of God's grace throughout the Bible. He begins with Genesis and ends with the Great Commission. He shows us God's grace through the lives of many men and women in the Bible, who were affected when God extended grace to them. He chooses Bible characters with various backgrounds, that correspond to the various backgrounds and baggage that men and women of today might experience.

He tells the Bible stories as if you were telling a story to a friend, rather than quoting them from the Bible, which gives readers a fresh perspective. But it also allows Stanley to make speculation about what the characters might have been thinking or feeling. Although this can make us think outside the box – I’d still encourage readers to read the stories straight from the Bible and draw their own conclusion.

The book is broken into 13 chapters all ending in "by Grace".

I found myself getting bored - this book didn’t challenge me.

Overall – it was good, but not great!
