Born For This Book Review by Chris Guillebeau

Image
To be completely honest - the first 30 pages took me awhile (like almost two weeks -yes, -that's crazy, I know!) to read..... I simply was having a hard time getting into this book. Then, in a flash - that all changed! I finished the next 279 pages in two days and have started reading it for the second time! It's another great book to add to my bookshelf ! "The conventional assumptions that we have been taught about choosing a career and how we look at things in general are often misguided and simply wrong!" Why is it that if you hold down a job for years that pays well - people think you have it made! they say you are doing well - that you have arrived. Even though, you hate that job. The job is depressing, dragging you down and slowly killing you inside.  I don't believe God ever intended us to live that way. God wants us to be fulfilled and happy. He wants us to take pride in our work, to be a good steward of the talents He gave us. And while y

Getting Rid of the Swimming Pool

Image
We said goodbye to our pool today. We had a grand party - one last hurrah - a pizza party with homemade ice cream floats! There's a few things about it that I'm gonna miss.... the beauty it brought to our backyard. the sound of the water. going for a late night swim- just hubby and I. cooling off on a hot summer day. the memories we made together as a family. and especially the reflection of the water dancing on my ceiling in the evening. We bought the pool to have something to do as a family, and to be honest - I feel guilty taking that away from the kids.... but there comes a time in life when you gotta face the facts. And the fact is too much is just that - too much! The excess of things and luxuries are not always worth it. The pool was costing us hundreds of dollars a year to run, It took time to balance, sweep and upkeep it. The supplies, toys, towels, chemicals, sweeper, hose, - all adding to extra clutter . Where we live, it is always windy, a pool cover

Cream Cheese Roll Ups

Image
Looking for a quick brunch idea for a special occasion, or maybe just a little something special to serve your family this weekend? Try these Cream Cheese Roll-ups - they are quick, easy and taste amazing with a cold glass of fresh milk! Ingredients 1 loaf of white bread 1 bar (8oz) of cream cheese  softened 3/4 - 1 cup powdered sugar ¾ cups sugar 1 TB cinnamon ½ cup butter, melted Instructions With a rolling pin, flatten bread. (I used 12 slices.)                                     In a small bowl combine cream cheese and powdered sugar until well blended. In a separate bowl combine sugar and cinnamon - set aside. Spread 1 - 1½ tablespoons of cream cheese mixture onto each flattened bread piece and roll up.                                        Dip each rolled bread into melted butter and then into the cinnamon and sugar mix. (I have found using a paper plate for the melted butter and cinnamon sugar, makes it easier and is less mess!)

What Does Family Mean to You?

Image
W ho are your family? Have you ever stopped and really thought about that question? The past few weeks, I've been giving it a lot of thought.... here's my opinion on the matter and the answer to the question! According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary , the definition of the word family is as follows: 1 - family. noun.  fam·i·ly \ˈfam-lÄ“, ˈfa-mÉ™-\  - plural. families. : a group of people who are related to each other : a person's children : a group of related people including people who lived in the past 1. : a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head : household 2. a : a group of persons of common ancestry : clan     b : a people or group of peoples regarded as deriving from a common stock : race 3. a : a group of people united by certain convictions or a common affiliation : fellowship     b : the staff of a high official (as the President) 4. : a group of things related by common cha

Chase Away Cancer

Image
Chase Away Cancer by Ellie Poole Ewoldt Rating: 3 Stars   This book chronicles the start of the long journey of cancer that God brought the Ewoldt family through. The struggles they faced through multiple surgeries, faulty central lines, chemo, radiation, and facing the possibility of the death of their son. The book also shows how they found joy in the Lord and strength in Him through all of it. I liked the way that the parents interacted with Chase, putting things in a way that a two year old could understand. During surgery, he would go for a “nap” with the doctor. He had “tubies” in his chest, that was wrapped with a “taco”.... He rode in a "spaceship".... I loved this statement on page 76 and is something I have had to repeat over and over in my own life.... “There is only one thing you can do” he said. “The only choice you have today and in the days ahead is to live in a moment-by-moment dependence on the grace of God to see you through…. you

Shaklee Trip to California 2012

Image
This month makes 4 years since Stephen and I went on our first All-Expense-Paid Shaklee Trip! So, I thought I'd take a look back and share some highlights with you! One of the  many  rewards of building our  Shaklee  business is the opportunity to travel… and not just travel, but travel  in style .....   In May 2012 we enjoyed a trip to California (This was an earned trip that was completely paid for) and absolutely loved it! From the moment we arrived at the airport, until we arrived back home, we were treated like royalty! We had our own limo as our transportation to and from the airport! My first time riding in a limo! We stayed at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel , which was very nice... each room had a private deck. There were walking paths, a gym, a pool, and nice courtyard with fountains and lemon and orange trees! Breakfast every morning was provided by Shaklee at the Faz-Restaurant. Gift from Shaklee.... We toured the beautiful Shaklee Corporat

My Little Prayers

Image
My Little Prayers Rating: 4 Stars My Little Prayers teaches kids both classic and modern prayers surrounding subjects such as mealtimes, bedtime, playtime, time with God, and prayers for times when kids are fearful, happy, or sad. The book is kid-sized, and the pictures are colorful and illustrated to match the prayer they go with.   My 6yr. old daughter loved this little book and was so excited when I gave it to her! She loves looking at the pictures and likes listening to me read the prayers. The thing I like most about this book is that it teaches kids that we can talk to God any time we want and that He always listens. If you are wanting to teach your child about the power of prayer, but not sure where to start…. this book is a great one to use! More info on the author and book found  here . Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Blogging For Books book review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I

Things to Say on a Job Interview

Image
I went on an interview for a job and when the boss asked what I wanted for compensation I replied: 1. First, I would like a generous commission on everything I sell with no limitations on my income. 2. I want to be paid a residual income, forever. 3. I want the ability to earn all-expense paid trips for a job well done, not just the vacation TIME, but the whole vacation! 4. I would also like the opportunity to purchase my own products at a discount . 5. I expect you to provide me with the very best support, graphics, training and resources to grow my business. 6. When I bring in and train any new team members, I deserve to be compensated PLUS earn a percentage of their purchases and the purchases of the people they bring in and train. 7. I would like the opportunity to rapidly advance within the company. 8. When I do well, I expect LOTS of praise, recognition and gifts! 9. I would like my friends and family to work here too. 10. By the way, I need to set my o
