Goats

Image
We have three of the sweetest, Registered Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats ever!!! We have been wanting goats for a long time and decided on the Nigerian Dwarf Dairy breed for a lot of reasons. Their milk has a high butterfat content They are sweet, not trouble makers They are more like sheep (they want to be with you) I've even had one (Willow) follow me into the house! they are small, so they consume less feed, hay etc. they are light enough that I can pick up a full sized doe and hoist her over a 5 ft fence! they give a surprisingly large amount of milk for their small size Goat poo is one of the best fertilizers there are - it is not hot, so you can put it directly on/around plants they are multi-purpose (we plan to butcher the extra weathers for meat) and last, but not least.... they are just plain CUTE and so fun to watch!!!! So here they are: ~ Willow ~ -she's the boss! Willow is a 4 yr old doe and has a lovely coat! She loves to be brushed, but is more int

~ My Garden ~

Image
I grew up in a large family. We lived in the country, grew and preserved our own food, sewed our own clothes, milked our cows, made our butter, cheese etc., raised animals and all the rest that goes with living on a country farm. While I've never enjoyed sewing....( my other sister's do though ),  I love to garden and can or freeze  ( I am wanting to try drying next ) most of my family's food! I love to look at all the shelves filled with canned goods, knowing I did my part in keeping our little family fed! I love working in my garden......    ..........but, I haven't always loved it! You see, my garden would always start out nice.... with long straight rows of veggies. I did a really good job ( with hubby's help ) at keeping it weeded too. It looked something like this; Then about the time that the plants started producing -the garden would get out of control! Overnight it turned into a great big patch of weeds!!! -sorry, no picture, (I never let my

Teaching Kids....

Image
You know, these days you hear so much about 'Green' Living and keeping our earth clean! I am not a tree hugger and I don't necessarily believe in 'global warming'!!  However, with that being said, I do think it's important to take care of the earth and the things around us. God has given us these things and I believe its our job to take care of what he has blessed us with. We teach our children not to litter with their trash, we teach them to recycle plastic, glass and paper. We teach them to recycle motor oil, we teach them to not waste electricity, water or food. We tell them smoking is bad for their health and for those that breath the air around it.  There is a lot that we teach our kids about keeping our part of the earth clean!  Why then do we not teach them to use clean products in our homes! First of all the home is where we spend most of our time. But, it is also where we come into contact with the most hazardous materials. For more in

Motherhood.....

Image
Above Rubies  posted the following on Facebook this past week: "I LOVE MOTHERHOOD! Every mother loves her children, but not every mother loves motherhood. This is the secret to entering into the joy of motherhood for which God created us. Motherhood is not something to run from as the liberalists advocate but to EMBRACE! Start off every day confessing out loud, I LOVE MOTHERHOOD. You will be amazed how this attitude will change your mothering and your whole household!" Which got me to thinking.... do I really love Motherhood??        I Love my kids and would do anything for them! I want them to be the best that they can be for God, so he can use them! I want them to succeed in life. I feel sad when they are sad or are hurting. I laugh when they laugh and rejoice when they are happy........... but do I really love motherhood?      Motherhood for me does not come natural. It is something I struggle with.  I hate doing dishes and keeping a clean house isn't on my

'MY HUSBAND ROCKS'

Image
I was visiting a new blog today, and loved her "My husband ROCKS Friday" posts. I may borrow the idea..... Thanks Randomissus  ! Here are my answers: 1. Where did you meet? We met through a mutual church friend. At the time, my life was great! I was really involved in doing God's will for my life and wasn't really wanting to date a guy, but they insisted he was perfect for me and said they'd invite him to church so 'no pressure' (he lived in a different state). 2. How long did you date before you were married? We dated for 1 yr. & 3 months total. He proposed at 11 months. so, we were engaged for two months. 3. What does he do that surprises you?  Alot and sometimes nothing all at the same time. He is a very steady plodder, so when he does surprise me ....it's usually pretty big and totally unexpected! 4. What is your favorite quality of his? Too many to mention! His dedication to me and the kids, providing for us, b

But this is a great time of year to tell our environmental story, and to teach how easy - and thrifty - it can be to make a difference for yourself, for your family, and for the planet. One healthier home at a time. Consider this: one family deciding to convert to our non-toxic biodegradable household cleaners keeps the equivalent of 5,000 bottles of conventional "ready-to-use" glass cleaner out of landfills. What would it mean if 50,000 families did the same? A great big thanks from the planet, and from people all over the world who share this wonderful home we call Earth. In honor of Earth Day, over the next 7 weeks, Shaklee will be offering everyone a world of savings, some great ways to make an impact for the planet, and a nice way to make a healthy living. Household Cleaners

Image
How many times do you wash the windows and cough? What about when you are scrubbing the shower, tub and toilets? I know for me personaly, when I used regular 'box' store cleaners, I would cough and sneeze something awful. I also would never let the kids come close to where I was using the cleaners at. One more thing......Do you realize that no cleaning/laundry type of product (even the empty containers) are to go into the landfill????  The reason? They are considered Hazardous Waste by our government!!! Now, why would we as parents want or let that around our kids? "Our homes should be the safest place for our family." I know we often say (myself included) the products work well, or everyone else uses them, or Natural cleaning products are too expensive, or they won't work as well.....etc.  Believe me, I was the same exact way! That is until I started using Shaklee and learned the proper way to use it right! Shaklee's Get Clean p

Business Card Holder Tutorial

Image
How many times do you put business cards on bulletin boards only to find them gone in a few days?? I found the solution..... Make your own Business Card Holder!! I think these are not only cute, but would also help your business......I found a great (very detailed) tutorial on Stitched Boutique .   I decided to make some for me! the first one that I made, I followed her steps, but with three kids running around, I though it was kinda time consuming, so I decided to simplify and it went much quicker....plus I liked the outcome better! So here it is simplified: Fist I printed out my tops onto card stock: Then I made one cut down the middle. (You should now have two pieces of paper.) Next, fold the bottom of the paper in half and draw a line 3/4" from the fold at the bottom. Lay a business card on the line (centered) then draw up the sides. -see picture below Cut out the rectangle: Fold the bottom up like it was before you cut it. Add tape to each of t

Car Seats

Everyone With A Child Should Read This..... Car Seat Safety: The Benefits of Extended Rear Facing (ERF)  What is Extended Rear Facing? Extended rear-facing simply means to keep a child in the rear-facing position after the child reaches 1 year and 20 lbs. 20 lbs is the minimum requirement for turning a child to the forward-facing position (by Ontario law). While you can choose to forward-face at the current minimum of 20 lbs, it is highly recommended that you keep your child rear-facing until the upper limits of the seat are reached. Your child will reach these upper limits when one of the following conditions occurs: 1. The child reaches the rear-facing weight limit 2. The top of the child's head is within one inch of the top of the shell of the car seat. Push down on the padding and measure with the plastic shell. Why should I keep my child Rear Facing? It is the safest way for anyone to ride. Need proof? *From 1992 through June of 1997, only 9 properly restraine

Natural Cleaners

Is Your Home Safe? GET CLEAN -  Safe for you, your home, and your planet.™ The real dirt on clean. You know that good, healthy feeling you get when you’ve just cleaned house? Sorry to spoil it, but you may have just madeyour home dirtier. Think of it this way. You wouldn’t let your kids play with toxic chemicals, so why would you let the baby crawl over a floor that’s just been wiped with them? That’s much more dangerous than the orange juice that was just there. How dangerous? Just take a look at these statistics. • Over 90% of poison exposures happen at home. • Common chlorine bleach is the #1 household chemical involved in poisoning. • Organic pollutants, found in many common cleaners and even air fresheners, are found at levels 2 to 5 times higher inside your home than out. • A person who spends 15 minutes cleaning scale off shower walls could inhale three times the “acute one-hour exposure limit” for glycol ether-containing products set by the California Office of Envir

A Book Angel

Image
Last winter, almost a year ago my sister came over to do crafts with my daughter and I one evening. We made Book Angel's! My book angel My daughters book angel It was simple enough that my daughter could do everything (except for help with the hot glue gun), but was also lots of fun! Items needed: A book (I used an old song book, my daughter used a reading book with pictures), a glue gun and glue, fake craft hair, wooden balls and scraps of lace and ribbon. You take the book and fold the first six or so pages up.....they are the 'wings'. Do the same thing with the last six or so (the same amount) of pages. Then go through  the rest of the book folding the pages down. (children may need some help to try to fold the pages all the same) folding pages Set the book upright, glue on a wooden ball for the head, then glue on hair, lace, ribbons and bows, etc. (my daughter added a face with a marker to hers...) cutting the hair and there
