Unlock Your Dream Book Review

Image
The back cover of this book states: "We all dream. The capacity for dreaming and pursuing those dreams is a gift given to every individual. But many people cannot even begin to describe their dreams, much less figure out how to bring them to fruition in the face of frustrating obstacles, distractions, and setbacks." "In Unlock Your Dream Philip Wagner will inspire you to engage in life’s greatest quest: discovering and reaching God’s purpose and dreams for your life. You’ll be empowered, equipped, and freed to give life to your dreams and to live with joy and expectation for an adventurous future." In complete honesty, I never finished reading this book. It wasn't all bad... Chapter 3 actually had some really good stuff.... such as trusting God and realizing that as we mature, dreams may need to be renovated, edited, and refined. Dreams change. I especially liked the following quote: "God never asks us to give up something that is

Read and Share Look, I'm Reading! Bible Storybook Review

Image
The day this book came, I sat down with my 6 yr. old daughter Adilayia, to read this book together. She enjoyed it.  By replacing key words with graphics, the child can fill in the story by looking at the picture which represents the missing word.  I used to love these books when I was a kid!  Some of the short stories are:  Beginning, Flood, Abraham’s Family, Moses, the Promised Land, Ruth and Naomi, David, God’s People Made Slaves, Esther, and Jonah in the Old Testament and Jesus is Born, John the Baptist, Jesus’s Life, Jesus’s Death and Resurrection, the Holy Spirit Comes, Saul Becomes Paul, Peter, and the Best is Yet to Come. The cartoon like drawings are simple and fun-   but some of the people images v.s words were kind of confusing to explain to a 6 yr old. but overall,  I think this book is a great addition to our home school library for my son and daughter who are learning to read. To comply with regulations by the FTC, Book Look Bloggers has provided me wi

The Curated Closet Book Review

Image
The Curated Closet By: Anuschka Rees 3 Stars I am a visual person when it comes to learning! So, while reading  'the curated closet' , I loved the suggestion on creating a 'My Style' Pinterest Board . After looking at my style board , it helped me see a pattern. I like above the knee length denim straight skirts, bodycon skirts, denim and leather jackets, brown boots, strappy sandals, cardigans, and chunky jewelry, to name a few. I am a Type 3/secondary Type 2 in Dressing Your Truth - so you'll find lots of Type 3 colors in my style board. I think the most important thing to remember when building your curated closet is that you personalize it to you. Don't try to be someone else's style look alike! Overall, I thought this book had a lot of good useful ideas, the only downside is that the photos were not vivid or engaging, and overall dull and boring - but that may just be my Type 3 personality showing! I am not doing a closet

Me: A Compendium Book Review

Image
Me: A Compendium   by: Wee Society  4 Stars I thought this book looked cute and was planning on using it for my youngest (age 6). But since my two youngest are in the same grade and do the same work, I thought my cute, curly haired, 4 yr. old, niece might like it.....  And her Momma says she does!  The only down is that it may be a little more suitable for a 6-7 yr. old that can read and write! Me: A Compendium by Wee Society  is a cute, cleverly made, hardback, fill-in journal for kids. The pages are big and bold and colorful.  Kids are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild as they write or draw. The large, colorful pages allow for kids to explore who they are and who they want to be. I loved all the questions that they ask such as:  What's your favorite jokes? What's your favorite clothes?   If I were going to outer space, _____ is what I would pack.   What I wish was inside my refrigerator.   If I had a shop, it would be called _

The Happiness Dare Giveaway

Image
I love this book and want you to love it too, so....  I'm giving away a copy - right here on my blog...  keep reading to enter! The last couple years, I have been choosing to have more joy in my life. We have gotten rid of clutter , figured out priorities, cut back on stress in our life, and paid off our home. Life is good, but you know what??? Joy and happiness are two different things -and my life could use a lot more holy happiness in it! Get this.... God is a Happy God - and He wants us to be Happy! A. W. Tozer said that the people of God "ought to be the happiest people in all the wide world!" I think too often as Christians, we put a limit on our happiness in God.  In The Happiness Dare, Jennifer says "God gave us the created world - with sugar, bluebirds, audio books, words with friends, art museums, and sex. You have permission to enjoy food, friendships, and a cool swim on a hot summer day. the devil didn't make art, laughte

Dressing Your Truth Experiment Fun With The Four Types

Image
I sometimes talk with people who claim that anybody can wear anything and look good. I disagree. Faith, my daughter and I decided to test that theory, by each dressing in all four types of the Dressing Your Truth Program . We used clothes, makeup, and accessories that we already had and really did try to dress as much as we could in each of the four type styles, even if we didn't like it.  We both wore the same color of makeup for each of the types. We started with Type 1: Faith had a light aqua t-shirt, white shorts, a multi colored striped belt, a bright orange zipper bracelet and gold circle earrings. (It was harder for me to find a Type 1 outfit, as I have been trying to clean out my closet since I started DYT and living with less) . My shirt had multi color circles, which I pared with a white sweater and gold circle earrings. We puffed our hair on top to give it an upward motion and we completed the look with blue eye shadow, light pink lip stain

Born For This Book Review by Chris Guillebeau

Image
To be completely honest - the first 30 pages took me awhile (like almost two weeks -yes, -that's crazy, I know!) to read..... I simply was having a hard time getting into this book. Then, in a flash - that all changed! I finished the next 279 pages in two days and have started reading it for the second time! It's another great book to add to my bookshelf ! "The conventional assumptions that we have been taught about choosing a career and how we look at things in general are often misguided and simply wrong!" Why is it that if you hold down a job for years that pays well - people think you have it made! they say you are doing well - that you have arrived. Even though, you hate that job. The job is depressing, dragging you down and slowly killing you inside.  I don't believe God ever intended us to live that way. God wants us to be fulfilled and happy. He wants us to take pride in our work, to be a good steward of the talents He gave us. And while y

Chase Away Cancer

Image
Chase Away Cancer by Ellie Poole Ewoldt Rating: 3 Stars   This book chronicles the start of the long journey of cancer that God brought the Ewoldt family through. The struggles they faced through multiple surgeries, faulty central lines, chemo, radiation, and facing the possibility of the death of their son. The book also shows how they found joy in the Lord and strength in Him through all of it. I liked the way that the parents interacted with Chase, putting things in a way that a two year old could understand. During surgery, he would go for a “nap” with the doctor. He had “tubies” in his chest, that was wrapped with a “taco”.... He rode in a "spaceship".... I loved this statement on page 76 and is something I have had to repeat over and over in my own life.... “There is only one thing you can do” he said. “The only choice you have today and in the days ahead is to live in a moment-by-moment dependence on the grace of God to see you through…. you

My Little Prayers

Image
My Little Prayers Rating: 4 Stars My Little Prayers teaches kids both classic and modern prayers surrounding subjects such as mealtimes, bedtime, playtime, time with God, and prayers for times when kids are fearful, happy, or sad. The book is kid-sized, and the pictures are colorful and illustrated to match the prayer they go with.   My 6yr. old daughter loved this little book and was so excited when I gave it to her! She loves looking at the pictures and likes listening to me read the prayers. The thing I like most about this book is that it teaches kids that we can talk to God any time we want and that He always listens. If you are wanting to teach your child about the power of prayer, but not sure where to start…. this book is a great one to use! More info on the author and book found  here . Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Blogging For Books book review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I

The More Of Less By Joshua Becker

Image
The More Of Less   By Joshua Becker Rating: 5 Stars In 2014, I stumbled across Becoming Minimalist and started reading with interest. In January 2015 , My husband and I decided that we were going to make the choice to get rid of clutter and simplify our life. Since then we have cleaned out the house, garage, shop, barn and attic and have gotten rid of truck loads of stuff. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve never been ‘pack-rats’, but we simply had a lot of stuff that we didn’t use, just taking up space. You can find my blog post with pictures here. I like to think of myself as a cozy, comfortable minimalist…. I’ll never have total bare walls or get rid of all my photo’s, etc., but I do love a clean, non cluttered home and continue to get rid of things on a daily basis. "Living with less isn't about having bare walls and no furniture. It's about getting rid of the clutter, so you can enjoy the things that you love." –Rhoda A Kindre

How to Review a Product Company

Image
Any one can find a bad review on any company. My husband always says about reviews... "If you are looking for bad reviews, you'll find them. If your looking for good ones, you'll find them too." He has an extremely good point. People that write reviews all have their own opinions and some even have a hidden agenda - for example, instead of contacting customer service, they'd rather write a review and drag the company through the mud, without giving the company a chance to right the wrong. So here's what you need to know when it comes to reviews. There's going to be good ones and bad ones..... that's not the point. When reviewing a product company, look for the scientific research, the published health journals, the studies. Look to see if the company is owned or partly owned by a doctor, the scientist or the research company. Do they benefit by giving the company a good review? Look for outside studies. The other thing I would like to make

Ohio Caverns

Image
Concealed beneath the rolling farmland and wooded countryside of Champaign County, Ohio, the caverns were formed thousands of years ago when an underground river cut through ancient limestone and created vast rooms and passageways that later filled with countless crystal stalactites, stalagmites and other amazing formations.  Today, these once-hidden caves are one of Ohio's top tourist attractions. The caverns remain a steady 54 degrees year-round, regardless of the surface temperature. The humidity is always above 90 percent, and the air inside the caverns is cleaner than the air above ground — filtered by the water that formed the caves and still drips today.  The caverns are the largest in the state, with over 2 miles of surveyed passageways ranging in depth from 30 feet to the deepest point of 103 feet. Special tours take you into the "historic" part of the cave — the portion first discovered and opened decades ago.        Ninety-five
