Dressing Your Truth Experiment Fun With The Four Types

Image
I sometimes talk with people who claim that anybody can wear anything and look good. I disagree. Faith, my daughter and I decided to test that theory, by each dressing in all four types of the Dressing Your Truth Program . We used clothes, makeup, and accessories that we already had and really did try to dress as much as we could in each of the four type styles, even if we didn't like it.  We both wore the same color of makeup for each of the types. We started with Type 1: Faith had a light aqua t-shirt, white shorts, a multi colored striped belt, a bright orange zipper bracelet and gold circle earrings. (It was harder for me to find a Type 1 outfit, as I have been trying to clean out my closet since I started DYT and living with less) . My shirt had multi color circles, which I pared with a white sweater and gold circle earrings. We puffed our hair on top to give it an upward motion and we completed the look with blue eye shadow, light pink lip stain

Born For This Book Review by Chris Guillebeau

Image
To be completely honest - the first 30 pages took me awhile (like almost two weeks -yes, -that's crazy, I know!) to read..... I simply was having a hard time getting into this book. Then, in a flash - that all changed! I finished the next 279 pages in two days and have started reading it for the second time! It's another great book to add to my bookshelf ! "The conventional assumptions that we have been taught about choosing a career and how we look at things in general are often misguided and simply wrong!" Why is it that if you hold down a job for years that pays well - people think you have it made! they say you are doing well - that you have arrived. Even though, you hate that job. The job is depressing, dragging you down and slowly killing you inside.  I don't believe God ever intended us to live that way. God wants us to be fulfilled and happy. He wants us to take pride in our work, to be a good steward of the talents He gave us. And while y

Chase Away Cancer

Image
Chase Away Cancer by Ellie Poole Ewoldt Rating: 3 Stars   This book chronicles the start of the long journey of cancer that God brought the Ewoldt family through. The struggles they faced through multiple surgeries, faulty central lines, chemo, radiation, and facing the possibility of the death of their son. The book also shows how they found joy in the Lord and strength in Him through all of it. I liked the way that the parents interacted with Chase, putting things in a way that a two year old could understand. During surgery, he would go for a “nap” with the doctor. He had “tubies” in his chest, that was wrapped with a “taco”.... He rode in a "spaceship".... I loved this statement on page 76 and is something I have had to repeat over and over in my own life.... “There is only one thing you can do” he said. “The only choice you have today and in the days ahead is to live in a moment-by-moment dependence on the grace of God to see you through…. you

My Little Prayers

Image
My Little Prayers Rating: 4 Stars My Little Prayers teaches kids both classic and modern prayers surrounding subjects such as mealtimes, bedtime, playtime, time with God, and prayers for times when kids are fearful, happy, or sad. The book is kid-sized, and the pictures are colorful and illustrated to match the prayer they go with.   My 6yr. old daughter loved this little book and was so excited when I gave it to her! She loves looking at the pictures and likes listening to me read the prayers. The thing I like most about this book is that it teaches kids that we can talk to God any time we want and that He always listens. If you are wanting to teach your child about the power of prayer, but not sure where to start…. this book is a great one to use! More info on the author and book found  here . Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Blogging For Books book review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I

The More Of Less By Joshua Becker

Image
The More Of Less   By Joshua Becker Rating: 5 Stars In 2014, I stumbled across Becoming Minimalist and started reading with interest. In January 2015 , My husband and I decided that we were going to make the choice to get rid of clutter and simplify our life. Since then we have cleaned out the house, garage, shop, barn and attic and have gotten rid of truck loads of stuff. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve never been ‘pack-rats’, but we simply had a lot of stuff that we didn’t use, just taking up space. You can find my blog post with pictures here. I like to think of myself as a cozy, comfortable minimalist…. I’ll never have total bare walls or get rid of all my photo’s, etc., but I do love a clean, non cluttered home and continue to get rid of things on a daily basis. "Living with less isn't about having bare walls and no furniture. It's about getting rid of the clutter, so you can enjoy the things that you love." –Rhoda A Kindre

How to Review a Product Company

Image
Any one can find a bad review on any company. My husband always says about reviews... "If you are looking for bad reviews, you'll find them. If your looking for good ones, you'll find them too." He has an extremely good point. People that write reviews all have their own opinions and some even have a hidden agenda - for example, instead of contacting customer service, they'd rather write a review and drag the company through the mud, without giving the company a chance to right the wrong. So here's what you need to know when it comes to reviews. There's going to be good ones and bad ones..... that's not the point. When reviewing a product company, look for the scientific research, the published health journals, the studies. Look to see if the company is owned or partly owned by a doctor, the scientist or the research company. Do they benefit by giving the company a good review? Look for outside studies. The other thing I would like to make

Ohio Caverns

Image
Concealed beneath the rolling farmland and wooded countryside of Champaign County, Ohio, the caverns were formed thousands of years ago when an underground river cut through ancient limestone and created vast rooms and passageways that later filled with countless crystal stalactites, stalagmites and other amazing formations.  Today, these once-hidden caves are one of Ohio's top tourist attractions. The caverns remain a steady 54 degrees year-round, regardless of the surface temperature. The humidity is always above 90 percent, and the air inside the caverns is cleaner than the air above ground — filtered by the water that formed the caves and still drips today.  The caverns are the largest in the state, with over 2 miles of surveyed passageways ranging in depth from 30 feet to the deepest point of 103 feet. Special tours take you into the "historic" part of the cave — the portion first discovered and opened decades ago.        Ninety-five

Five Questions to Ask When Researching A Nutritional Company

Image
Seriously Folks..... do your research! Don't take stuff (vitamins/slim/energy drinks/essential oils, etc.) just because they ‘seem’ to work. Your health is much more important in the long run! Find the scientific research on the products.... look up the clinical studies. You owe it to yourself. Here is a study done with 12 different herbal companies, and the results they got when testing the product. Only 2 had the authentic product! Crazy!   This is why we are so picky with the supplements we use, but please, don't take our word for it.... here are 5 questions to ask your company and some of their phone numbers...... ‪ 1. Are your final products organic and free of pesticides, herbicides and chemicals? "Natural" and 'organic" simple will not cut it. They cannot just 'start out' organic. The "Organic" farm listed on the website does not tell you anything about the finished product. The pill or shake that you put in your mouth mu

Run, Don't Walk, and Go Buy A Diva Cup

Image
To all the girls out there..... YOU need a Diva Cup!!!! Warning: this conversation is not for boys or immature women. The Diva Cup has changed my life (at least that 'time of month') and it can change yours too! What is a Diva Cup?!?! The Diva Cup is a re-useable, silicone, menstrual cup that is inserted into your vagina, and is used to collect blood during “that time of the month.” It sits snugly and comfortably without being noticed. A couple times a day, you gently remove it, empty it’s contents into the toilet, rinse it out, and re-insert. It’s a super quick, easy, and clean process, and is not as bizarre as it sounds. Please, hear me out before you click away. Pads, in my opinion, are just gross. You’re basically sitting in an adult diaper that moves around, leaks and is just no fun to sit on. I hated them when I was a teenager and still do. Tampons are better as far as being “neater”, but they run the risk of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) and death (go read

Overextended and Loving Most of It By Lisa Harper

Image
Overextended and Loving Most of It  By Lisa Harper ‘The Unexpected Joy of Being Harried, Heartbroken, and Hurling Oneself Off Cliffs’ Rating: 3 Stars Would you consider your life stretched to the limit? Lately I feel like I'm being pulled in one too many directions. There’s always a lot to do…. yard work, gardening , schooling, cleaning , cooking, animals to take care of , business appointments , errands to run, kids that need me…. the emotional effects of a special needs son and the exhaustion that comes with having cancer …… life doesn’t seem to slow down. In this book , Lisa shows us that it is possible for us to glorify the Lord, even if we are frazzled and overextended. Even in the middle of our own hectic schedules, it is only by resting in God’s mercy that we are able to keep risking our hearts to serve his people and fulfill the callings he has placed on us. Book Review: The Courage to Receive

Image
Rating: 2 Stars I have been holding off on reading this book because I wanted to give it my full attention, as I am a HUGE Jen Fong fan. I have found the content of Jen's Social Media Blog and Facebook page to be so useful, so I was very excited to read this book! With that said, however, I was somewhat disappointed in reading The Courage to Receive. The book touches on the points everyone experiences in loss, disappointment, and struggle. We've all experienced setbacks to one degree or another and can all learn from them. The book is clearly written, easy to read and short enough (too short) that you don't lose attention or can't find the key points. While the strategies she presents for getting out of your bad attitude after failure are spot on. And, the compassion and wisdom with which she presents are great, I didn’t feel that I learned anything new or life changing to help me out of a bad situation. Everything that she stated – is alread
