DIY Serving Stands

Image
This year I made serving stands for my mom, sisters, and sister in laws for Christmas. They were so much fun to make and pretty easy too.  I started by shopping thrift stores. I tried to buy a tea cup or small dish or plate as a topper, two vases or candle holders (turned upside down) and three plates - small, medium, and large, for each serving stand. I actually didn't buy dishes with the thought of my siblings taste in colors at all - I just randomly purchased plates, and cups that I thought looked unique.... the shopping part was fun! After I got everything purchased, I took an evening and started putting different plates together. I kept trying different colors and patterns, until I got a set that I liked. Then I stacked them together and started doing the same for the next one, etc. After I decided on the colors and plates for each serving stand, I started gluing them together. I used gorilla glue for glass and pottery that dried clear. The tr

Cinnamon Roll Twists

With all the cold, dreary weather we have had lately, I decided Sunday morning that I was gonna make some warm yummy goodness for my family. I found this recipe the other day over at The Recipe Critic and just had to try it out. It turned out so good, I just had to share.... I did tweek it to our family's liking just a little. I made a double batch and was glad I did.... they tasted just as good 'leftover' as they did coming straight from the oven! Cinnamon Roll Twists Dough: 1½ cups warm water 3 Tbsp. sugar 1 Tbsp. yeast 3 cups flour 1/2 cup Instant Shaklee Protein 1 tsp salt Mix warm water, sugar and yeast together. Let that sit for 5 minutes. Add flour and salt to the water, sugar, and yeast. Mix this until smooth and let it raise for 10 minutes. I used my kitchenaid mixer with the dough hook and it was so easy and worked great! NOTE: I used about 1 cup more flour than the recipe called for. Roll out the dough in a large square on a flou

This time of year there is so much flu, strep throat and just plain colds and coughs going around.  You can't be on social media or talk to friends without someone (or lots of someones) being sick in some kind of way.  So, if that is you, I want to tell you - you don't have to be 'sick' any longer. Your body just needs the right nutrients to be able to heal itself. Today, I want to post a recipe for REAL Vitamin Water..... it works wonders and taste's great! Satisfying Chicken Soft Tacos (THM - S)

Ok, so the other night I was browsing online for something to make for supper, when I found Crock Pot Chicken Fajitas from Stacy Makes Cents .  The only problem was: #1- It was a crock pot meal and (I know this sounds terrible, but I don't know how to use my crock pot very well) or maybe, I'm just not a big fan - you have to plan ahead to use a crock and I don't plan ahead when it comes to meals.  #2 - It takes like 4 hrs. to cook and it was already past supper time. #3 - It called for items like peppers and onions (my family don't eat peppers and onions) Anyway, after going out to the shop and  telling complaining to hubby about how I found this good recipe, but I couldn't make it, etc. and after, putting it off as long as I possibly could, I decide to come back inside and get super duty over!  But, I couldn't get that wonderful yummy sounding recipe out of my mind, so decided to try to make it anyway - only with items that my family would

Black Raspberry Pie

Image
Around our place, it's berry season.... we just finished the strawberries and are now full swing into raspberry picking.   We have both red raspberries and black raspberries. My personal favorite would be the black raspberries, as I think they are easier to prune, pick, and can be used in more recipes than the red, but that is just a personal opinion! This year I planted yellow raspberries, but it will be another year or two before they'll be ready to pick.  Oh and blueberries - this is our first year to pick blueberries! We don't have many, just a few handfuls so far, but they sure are yummy and so fun to pick right out of the garden - that is something new for us! Anyway, back to the subject..... I like to put both the red and black raspberries in the freezer to use in desserts throughout the winter. But, the kids love to pick and eat 'em right out of the garden, so sometimes I don't always get as many as I'd like to put away for later.

Well, It's Spring-time here in East Central Indiana - and that means, that soon rhubarb will be plentiful! I have two beds of rhubarb in my garden  - both the Victoria and the Crimson Red. I like them mixed.  I love to freeze rhubarb.... it is so easy and it makes the best rhubarb crisp, jellies, and rhubarb cream pies!   Here is one of our family's favorite rhubarb deserts!  ~ Easy, Delicious, Rhubarb Crisp ~ 4 cups chopped rhubarb 1 package strawberry Jell-O 1/3 cup sugar 1 package white cake mix 1 cup water 1/3 cup butter melted   OPTION 1: Place rhubarb in a 9x13"  baking dish. Sprinkle with gelatin, sugar and cake mix. Pour water evenly over dry ingredients; drizzle with butter. Bake @350* for 1 hr. or until top is golden brown. (NOTE: I usually bake for around 1 hr. and 10 min.) OPTION 2: Place rhubarb  in a 9x 13" baking dish. Sprinkle with gelatin and sugar. Mix together cake mix and water and pour/spoon over top; dri
